Things to Know About Starting Solids

things to knowIf you’re a first time mom you’re probably eager and ready to start solids at 4 or 5 months but most pediatricians would encourage you to wait until baby is 6 months. Here’s why you should wait?

As you introduce a new food to baby most pediatricians recommend waiting three days in between new foods. This helps single out any possible allergies. If baby has multiple new foods at once and later has a reaction it would be difficult to figure out which food was the cause.

Foods to introduce first?

Bananas, Apple Sauce, Avocados, Squash, Sweet Potato

Steel Oats–> Read the directions on the package for these and puree after cooking.

Other great foods to start introducing later

Peaches, Pears, Green Beans, Peas, Spinach, Broccoli, Carrots

Non-Produce Foods to Introduce

Quinoa- Follow package cooking directions, puree and serve!

Beans- Cook and drain beans, puree and serve!
